The sculpture itself measures 47″ in height, 27.5″ in width, and 21.5″ depth acquired from the home of the most prolific American conceptual artist. Signed and dated. Ursula Meyer (1915-2003) American sculpture signed and dated. This monumental bust sculpture is the one of the first works of art ever offered for sale by renowned artist Ursula Meyer. Meyer was born in Hanover, Germany in 1915. She studied ceramics at the Reggia Scuola in Faenza, Italy. Meyer became a professor of sculpture at the City University of New York in New York City in 1963, and she would remain at CUNY’s Lehman College until her retirement in 1980. She wrote a number of articles and reviews in newspapers and art magazines in the United States. Her perspective on Minimalist art was one of many recognized voices in the art world of the 1960s. Meyer authored the book Conceptual Art published by E.P. Dutton in 1972 after her death, she received a retrospective exhibit at the Art Gallery of The Graduate Center of The City University of New York. Meyer’s sculpture has been described as focused on the interplay of transiency and stability, flexible and transcendent of size and shape, and deeply aware of the historical and political dimensions of the monumental. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Finch College Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Neward Museum and the Larry Aldrich Museum. Book contains b/w photos and b/w illustrations.
